Sustainability Coordinator | Port Authority of NY and NJ

Jim Hineson is a Sustainability Coordinator in the Central Automotive Division (CAD) at the Port Authority of NY and NJ. With 24 years of experience, Jim plays a key role in managing and advancing the agency’s fleet electrification and sustainability initiatives. The Port Authority operates over 3,000 pieces of equipment across seven strategically located facilities in New York and New Jersey.

Jim is responsible for researching and validating sustainable technologies, including idle mitigation, alternative fuels, biodegradable oils, as well as hydrogen and electric vehicles. Under his leadership, these technologies undergo rigorous testing before being adopted across the fleet, ensuring their efficiency and sustainability.

In addition to technology adoption, Jim manages CAD’s outreach program, raising awareness about the agency’s sustainability efforts and best practices. His contributions, alongside the efforts of the entire CAD team, have earned the Port Authority numerous accolades, including the NJGEEA Award, the #1 ranking in the 100 Best Government Green Fleet Award for 2016 and 2019, the ACT Leading Public Fleet Award in 2021, and a 2nd place ranking in the NAFA Green Fleet Award for 2024.
